Ian Fisher is off to Toronto next week. He is pursuing an acting career and plans to explore opportunities for roles in film and for TV. Last week we met to complete a series of actor portraits for his portfolio. I wish you the best of luck Ian. It's been a treat watching you grow into a very talented actor over the years. And I hope you remember my commission rate when you land your first 20 million dollar movie.

Wedding Photography - Summer Weddings

I am pleased to announce that we will be covering weddings on July 17, August 1st, August 29th, August 15th and on September 7th this summer.

On July 17th Kim and Ben's wedding will be held at the Mackie House in Vernon. This is beautiful location on the shore of Kalamalka Lake and the setting could not be better for a wedding. We met Kim and Ben over the Christmas holiday and look forward to meeting them again in July to make final plans for the day.

August 1st I will be in Kelowna for Jenny and Brandon's Wedding. I met Jenny and Brandon last weekend in Kelowna where we had fun capturing engagement photos. You can see the photos here.

August 15th we will be back at O'Keefe Ranch near Vernon for Katherine and Chett's Wedding.

August 29th is the big day for Gillian and Justin. The wedding will take place at Gillian's parents home in Armstrong. It was a pleasure to meet Gillian and Justin around Easter. Before long we will make the short trip to Armstrong and have a visit with Gillian's parents so we can see the cozy venue.

On September 7th Angela and Mark's wedding will take place at the Summerhill Pyramid Winery in Kelowna. With a fantastic view of the vineyard and Okanagan Lake this will be spectacular. We are looking forward to meeting Angela, Mark and their son Finegan later this summer.

Neil Young Concert in Kelowna

It was a huge treat to witness one of Canada's greatest rock legends last night. Neil Young is currently touring through Canada and lucky for us he made a stop in Kelowna. I was at the concert with a good group of friends which made it even more enjoyable. I would certainly characterize myself as a Neil Young fan but I still do not master his huge library of songs, now spanning about five decades. Going into to last nights show I was thinking that I would have a hard time stomaching some of his louder stuff by it was quite the contrary. This guy really knows how to rock and witnessing it live was amazing. Neil Young pulls out is arsenal of guitars, from old beat up Gibson Les Pauls to the gorgeous Gretsch and Old Martin acoustic he bought from Hank Williams. Nice stuff when you enjoy great guitars.

The set list had plenty of variety. Some well know classics such as Cinnamon Girl and Cowgirl in The Sand hit the spot with the audience. He did have a nice acoustic section with songs like Four Strong Winds, Unknown Legend, Heart of Gold and of course Old Man with the classic banjo solo performed by Larry Cragg.

Hats off to Neil Young for still doing this stuff at his age and holding up very well for a two hour plus concert. Five stars for this one. A huge thanks to Denise, Lorraine and Rick for helping me with my camera gear last night.

Wicked Weather

It was a beautiful evening here. Or so I thought. In the short time it took to pick up a few groceries the wind had picked up considerably and some awesome cloud formations appeared out of nowhere and faster than you would believe.

Jenny & Brandon Engagement Session

I am proud to say that I will be be the photographer for Jenny & Brandon's wedding on August 1st in Kelowna. I met Jenny and Brandon over a nice coffee at Starbucks Saturday afternoon where we went over the details for the wedding. We had also planned to do the engagement shoot and despite grey skies and not quite the balmy Okanagan temperatures we could have hoped for, we set out on the streets in downtown Kelowna and for stroll down the board walk along Lake Okanagan. Jenny & Brandon had lots of patience with the photographer and were a fun couple to shoot. I look forward to August 1st. View all the photos from the day via this link.

Downtown Vernon BC

The City of Vernon is coming to life as spring finally make an entrance. The nice early evening weather got us out for a walk along Vernon's main street, 30th Avenue. There was a buzz around the election offices of the Green Party and the Liberals. Preparations are underway for the Provincial election on May 12th. In the image above I was playing with the reflections from the Scotia Bank building on the corner of 30th Ave and 33rd Street. However the photos were lacking something. The solution came in the form of a friendly guy who walked by with a nice painting. I didn't even get his name. He was a indeed good sport. Without any objection he lined up for the shot and due to the nature of the photo he will remain anonymous.

Ice Breaker Tournament

The ice breaker tournament started today and will run over the Easter break with games being played in Windfield. Our girls started the day out on a good note versus Shuswap and won the game 4-0. The afternoon game was full of excitement but we ended up losing in a close game to Nelson with a score of 2-1. The photos from today are from the game versus Nelson.

Vernon Vipers vs. Powell River Kings

It is playoff time in hockey and the Vernon Vipers lead the series 3-1 versus the Powell River King. It took almost 6 periods of hockey to get the winning goal in the third overtime. The score was 3-2.

The atmosphere was fantastic at the Wesbild Centre for a Wednesday night. I had a great time shooting alongside Morning Star photographer Cory Bialecki and girlfriend Sarah. We exchanged a few photo stories, swapped gear and enjoyed the game. A nice couple indeed.

Predator Ridge - Much More than Golf

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy a good round of golf but yesterday we visited friends at Predator Ridge Golf Resort and found out there is much more to it than just golf. I went for a jog up a steep hill to the see if I could scout out the new Sparkling Hills Resort but several warning signs had me turn around so I will have to see this later on in the year as construction progresses. After the jog I grabbed the camera and took a short hike up to a view point where I spotted the tree in the picture above. There are also plenty of deer at Predator Ridge and it seems they have them trained well for portrait sessions.

Gorgeous Days in The Okanagan

I know I have been stuck on the topic of weather lately. Everyone I meet agrees, it's been a long and unusually cold winter around here. It is such a relief to be able to report that the last few days have been absolutely gorgeous. Monday we reached 19 degrees and it was sunny for the most part of the day and it is sunny again this morning and temps will get up around 21. This of course means that the soccer fields will be ready soon and everywhere you look people are getting out and on with their spring activities. Monday was a great day for photos. I started the week with an interior real estate shoot, a nice home in the lower East Hill.

Then we drove up to Salmon Arm where I walked the streets of Salmon Arm for a while and played tourist. A gentleman approached me when he saw my big lens and said; what could possibly be interesting to photograph around here he asked?

Then we rushed onto a soccer game at the local high school. Unfortunately it proved to be a bit of a challenge to find this particular high school and we only had time (again) to take in the first half before we had to head back to Vernon. The game was set on a field high above Salmon Arm with the Shuswap Lake in the background. A beautiful spot. We later learned that our team lost 4-0.

Back in Vernon we drove by the skateboard park in Polson Park and I noticed the beautiful evening light and decided to capture some of the action in the park. I talked to a group of freestyle BMX riders and they agreed to deliver the action. A nice day to be in the Okanagan, that's for sure.

Kamloops - Vernon: 2-0

It was great being out for the first soccer game of the season. Our local fields are not game ready yet so Saturday's game was moved to the UBCO fields in Kelowna. Our team came out short against Kamloops due to two early goals in the first half. Vernon shoved a strong effort in the second half which I unfortunatly couldn't stay for. Link to more photos.

The Look of Spring

We always used to say; "if you can't find anything to talk about, you can always talk about the weather". Check my blog post from just two days ago and you will know why I cannot escape the topic of weather. We woke up this morning and were presented to a nice blanket of snow on the ground. Not exactly what we were hoping for. I have road trip to Victoria planned for the weekend so the winter tires are staying on for a few more days. Spring scheduled road cleaning is going ahead as planned and the "monster" pictured above paid a visit to our street this morning.

James and the Country Gentlemen Wins!

I met "James and the Country Gentlemen" last year in October when I shot the guys for a band poster. I have yet to hear them live but I will be making an effort and try to catch their performance at the upcoming Rarearth Jazz and Blues Festival on August 8 and 9th. To get back to my headline. I read in today's Morning Star that James and the Country Gentlemen won the valley's top talent competition which was wrapped up this past Sunday at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre. The top prize was $5000.00 which the band will put towards a CD recording and couple of new guitars. Congrats! Just recently the band sent me a link to a few of their tunes. I would like to share this with you so link over to purevolume.com to hear a few tracks.
