A Stylish Affair, Blogger Web Design

Agatha Soros, Kelowna wedding and event coordinator, contacted me a few weeks ago regarding a web site for her business. After discussing pros and cons of a regular web site versus a blog site she decided on a blog. I am very excited about the possibilities with the blogger sites as it brings the web experience to life with frequent updates and ever changing content. We have just launched Agatha's site: www.astylishaffair.com

Siobhan Raupach, Portrait of an Opera Singer

In preparation for an early summer concert at the Vernon Music School Siobhan called me for a portrait session. We were aiming for a photo which can be used in a poster promoting the summer concert. Siobhan also needed head and shoulder portraits for her portfolio. Siobhan is currently in her second year at McGill in the music program as an opera singer.

Most Popular Photos

My Smugmug site has a feature named; "Most Popular Photos". These are the photos where visitors have clicked the "thumbs up" icon in the top right of the photo or have left me a comment. Topping the chart is the photo shown below of the snow ghosts taken at the top of Silver Star Mountain. This photo has been used for a post card and ran for two or three years as a banner on Silver Star's home page. As of today the popular photos gallery contains 455 photos. I invite you to to browse the gallery and please feel free to drop me a line with a comment.

Lumby Stars Hockey

There was excitement in the air at the hockey rink last night as I came out to photograph the Lumby Stars. The team has qualified for the Provincials for the second year in a row and I was invited out to team photos and individual portraits of the players. Having watched a bunch of olympics in the last couple of weeks I felt like a curler as I was sliding my strobes around the ice and moving back an forth for the different poses. All in all a fun shoot where the boys were super easy to work with. Thanks to Mary and coaches for having me back.

See all the Lumby Stars Photos via the link.

(Tech Talk)
The Lumby Star were lit by two Elinchrom BXRi 500 strobes each with a 66 cm softbox. For rim light I used an Elinchrom Quadra Ranger bounced into a small reflective umbrella. Camera was the Canon 5D II using primarily the 85L but also a 50mm for group shots and 135L for the head and shoulder portraits.

Whitecaps Soccer Academy, Team Photos

At the end of the season for the Whitecaps Soccer Academy in Vernon I was invited out to the indoor arena to do team shots. Everyone was in a great mood as this was the very last day. Not that the kids didn't like the academy but on this day you could tell they were going to have a good time in order to wrap things up on a good note. We are fortunate to have this program in Vernon with a stellar facility and great coaches.

Mary Thurber, Realtor Portrait and Business Card

Mary Thurber, Realtor with Century 21, stopped by the studio last week. We were doing portraits for Mary's new business cards. Mary has a great smile, handled the studio setting like a pro and I have no hesitation recommending her if you are looking for a realtor in the Vernon area.

Check Mary's listings on: www.homesweethomevernon.com

I have also had the privilege of putting the business card together for Mary.

Cafe' Francais at Seaton Secondary

This past week we attended the first annual Cafe' Francais at Seaton Secondary. It was a fundraiser for the French Immersion program in Vernon. The kids took care of the entertainment with a band performance and several solo acts. The coffee and cakes were delicious. We showed up with cameras and studio lights. We captured portraits of many of the guests with a French cafe' scene back drop created by the Seaton students. We had great support at the "photo booth" and donated all the proceeds to the students. Thanks to all the volunteers and especially Stephanie Hewson for putting together this fun event.

VISA TV Spot, Winter Olympics with Sarah Renner

I was pretty excited when I saw the Sarah Renner VISA ad for the first time today. The TV spot runs on CTV during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. The first photo, as the ad begin, is one of many shots I have captured of Sarah Renner over the years. Best of luck to you Sarah at the Olympics.

Youth Symphony of the Okanagan

I am excited to launch the web site for the Youth Symphony of the Okanagan. I have put the site together as a blog (blogger), so that they easily can add content as new events or concerts are announced. Please note that photography for the header and feature photos on this site are done by Kelowna Photographer Daniel Hayduk.

On behalf of the Executive board, parents, and most importantly, our musicians, I wanted to thank for your time and creativity in designing our website. You have brought us into the 21st century. I have had several inquiries about the YSO and requests for tickets since going online. Community calendars have somehow found it and posted our events on their sites. It is the beginning of a lot more exposure for us. I am also very appreciative of how quickly you completed the project and responded to all our questions, additions and changes. Thank you for being flexible and prompt.

With sincere thanks and appreciation,
Lucy Ruthven
President, Youth Symphony of the Okanagan

Silver Star Mountain

We managed to get away for few days of skiing over the weekend and also reunited with an old of friend of mine. Our families stayed in a gorgeous vacation home at Silver Star Mountain with great ski access. It had been a while since I have been downhill skiing so we mainly hit the blue runs of the Silver Woods Chair on the first day and then moved onto the steeper Putnam Creek side on day two.

We were treated to some fresh powder for Saturday morning and then the sun came out to play. I had a blast Saturday skiing in a group of five and we hit runs like White Elephant, Holy Smokes, Sunny Ridge, Calliper, Normania, Gypsy Queen and Wee Willie. It was a great reminder of what brought me to this beautiful area in the first place. Skiing!!!
