Keremeos and Swartz Bay

I was on the road yesterday. 565 km from Vernon to Victoria. A soccer game in Penticton gave me the opportunity to take the route via Keremeos and Princeton. Some interesting scenery this way and of course I didn't take enough time or enough stops for photos. I did take a couple shots in Keremeos. After pushing through some lower mainland traffic I was the second last car to make the six o'clock ferry from Twassen - Swartz Bay ferry. The last shot of the day was taken shortly before arrival at Swartz Bay.

As soon as my husband and I met Morten and his wife we knew immediately that we wanted them involved in our wedding. We were impressed not only by Morten's mix of candid and posed photos, but also by his outgoing personality. On the day of the wedding, I felt completely at ease as Morten ensured we got all the pictures we requested and then some! When we received the final edits of our pictures, my husband and I were absolutely amazed. I am so thankful that Morten was there for our special day because his pictures truly captured the happiness that will live in our memories forever.

Kim & Ben

Morten & Diana,
Thank you so very much for all of your hard work on our wedding day. The moments you captured are so special to us and the pictures are so beautiful! Thanks again; we really appreciated getting to know you a little bit and then having you there on our special day! We can't wait to show off our pictures

Chett & Katherine :-)

We were extremely pleased with the service provided by Morten and Diana. Morten's photos turned out exactly as we had imagined. Their laid-back but professional service added to the enjoyment of our wedding day.

Gillian & Justin

Morten came up from Vernon to Silver Star for our most special of special days. It was great to take away the worry about having the shots you really want. I did have my camera and snapped a few shots but within 5 hours of the wedding Morten had already emailed us a link to the photos on the website! This was fantastic as much of our family were not with us for the day so we could share our joy right away with our family and close friends. I have barely looked at my shots since as we just can't get away fom his album. It is at the top of my favourites list!!

Morten was really easy to have around and even though you knew he was there he didn't take over the scene like some photographers can.

Thanks for a wonderful job now we just have to decide which photos to select. Oh what the heck maybe we'll just take them all ;-)

Thanks again Morten. We are so happy you were able to come and capture our day the way you did. We'll be in touch soon for some prints etc. I'm sure both our Parents will be ordering too.

Gillian and Justin's Wedding

One of my favourite wedding photos from 2009 never made to the blog but better late than never. We shot Gillian and Justin's Wedding on an beautiful August day in Armstrong, BC. The wedding was very cozy and set around Gillian's family home near the outskirt of Armstrong. The featured photo seen below was captured in downtown Armstrong.

We were extremely pleased with the service provided by Morten and Diana. Morten's photos turned out exactly as we had imagined. Their laid-back but professional service added to the enjoyment of our wedding day.

Soccer: Seaton vs. Revelstoke

This time of year I spend a lot of time on the soccer fields and always with my camera gear within reach. Three games were on the agenda this week. Two high school school games are done and a league game is coming up on the weekend.

(Tech Talk Warning)
I have been experimenting with different setups over the years and find it quite rewarding now to be shooting with my dream setup, a Canon 1D Mark III, EF 300 2.8L IS + the 1.4x extender . For some of the games lately I have been using a two camera setup; the 1D with the 300 attached and a Canon 5D Mark II with the 70-200 2.8L. This allows me to shoot action almost all across the field with the 1D and when the action gets too close I turn to the 5D II. I am so enjoying shooting with the 1D due to three factors: First the autofocus tracking is a significant step up from anything I have used in the past. Second, shooting 10 frames per second ensures me that if there is some good action the likely hood of capturing is vastly increased. Third, I really like the look of the files if you nail the shot. I also try to shake things up from game to game. On Monday I shot the whole game with just the 1D and the 70-200. Other times I may throw on a different lens altogether in order to get a different look.

Check my soccer galleries from some of the early spring games.

Wedding: Marie-Catherine and Tim

The weather forecast for Saturday morning at Silver Star Mountain called for rain and thunder storms. This did not stop Marie-Catherine and Tim from going a ahead with the plans for getting married right on the ski slopes. We met in Silver Star Village and went by Skidoo to the set location at the top of two ski runs; "Cloud Nine" and "North Star". After waiting for just five minutes I met the bride and groom for the first time as they arrived on cross country skis. Both with huge smiles on their faces filled with anticipation of what was about to happen. The weather held up and the sun did actually peak out for a while during the ceremony. This was a small and private wedding with the wedding commissioner, Stew Pike, witnesses and friends Jim and Sue Huffman, the couple to be and myself capturing the event. Marie-Cathrine's parents live in Quebec and Tim's parents in Australia and a family wedding and redo of the wedding vows are planned for January. I do hope for the guests in January that they get to hear the original wedding vows as they are some of the most entertaining vows I have ever heard. I hope one of my photos below reflect this. Congrats Marie-Cat and Tim and thanks for letting me be a part of your big day.

Grad Photography 2010, Vernon BC

I love grads! It is always a great experience watching the young ladies and men spread their wings and fly into the world awaiting them after grade 12. They are full of energy, brave and yet you can usually trace a certain apprehension as they know this is an important day and they are not always sure about what is next. Parents have a tear in their eyes and the friends are cheering. It is certainly a day full of emotion.

I have been lucky to cover several grads and would be thrilled to cover yours in 2010. I offer portrait sessions, full or half day sessions. We do portraits of family, friends and peers. For more information drop me a line at: mb@mfoto.ca or call me at: 250.503.8472.

Vancouver Airport

As a last stop of a day of chasing wildlife in the Lower Mainland we decided to aim our cameras at birds of a different kind. The sun was setting over the Straight and the early evening flights were arriving at the Vancouver International Airport. I was surprised to see how many aviation fans had made this their Saturday outing. There were guys here with laptop and radar readings telling us exactly when and which planes to expect. A few guys had made the trip up from Seattle and had been there since 5 AM. It was a good atmosphere and one guy invited us to use the bed of his truck, which gave us just enough clearance so we could shoot the planes landing.

Snow Geese

I was out shooting wildlife with Henrik in the lower mainland on Saturday. It was a gorgeous crisp spring day and the mountains on the horizon were stunningly beautiful with the recent snow we have had. We were chasing raptors all day without much luck due to a low tide and somewhat windy conditions but it was still a stellar day where the highlight was a flock of snow geese spooked by a low flying eagle.

Vernon United U15 Girls - Icebreaker Bronze Medals

It was cold on the soccer fields over Easter but we all warmed up the end as our Vernon United U15 girls finished strong and took the bronze medals at the Icebreaker Tournament played in windy Winfield. This was my first soccer outing with my Canon1D Mark III and I really enjoyed efficient autofocus tracking and the high frame rate shooting at 10 frames per second. Check out the slideshow below or link to the soccer gallery.
